Freestanding baths remain one of the strongest ways for a retailer to create impact on the shop floor. They are products customers want to see in person, sit in and understand properly before making a decision. The proportions, depth, material and finish are difficult to judge from an online image, which gives the showroom an important role in turning interest into a confident specification.

For 2026, BC Designs has strengthened that proposition with three Cian baths available exclusively through bricks-and-mortar retailers. Westmere, Cavendish and Highcroft will not be supplied to online-only sellers, giving showrooms a genuine point of difference while reducing direct price comparison. It also creates an opportunity for retailers to talk customers through the details that matter, from the internal proportions and bathing position to the way the material feels in person.

Cian is BC Designs’ solid-surface material, made from a blend of natural minerals and resin. Rather than being formed from a sheet and reinforced underneath, as an acrylic bath typically is, Cian is cast into shape. This gives it a denser, more substantial feel, while allowing for finer edges and more sculpted forms. It is also warm to the touch, non-porous and resistant to everyday staining and scratches.

Colour gives retailers another reason to begin that conversation in-store. BC Designs has expanded its ColourKast offer with five new shades: Drifty White, Pale Peach, Rose Bloom, Aqua Blue and Minty Green. Colour runs throughout the Cian material rather than sitting as a painted surface, helping maintain a consistent finish and allowing minor marks to be refinished without exposing a different colour beneath.

For retailers, these are baths that benefit from being seen, touched and properly explained, giving the showroom a much stronger role in the final decision.

Adam Smith, national sales manager at BC Designs, says: “Coloured baths are not a passing trend now; they have been part of the market for several years and customers are becoming more confident about using them. The change is that colour is becoming easier to live with. It might be a soft peach, pale blue or muted green rather than something that dominates the room. Compact freestanding baths will continue to be important too, because people still want that focal point without giving up half the bathroom. The real test is whether the bath still feels right once the novelty has worn off.”
