AKW are actively supporting the desire of many elderly people who wish to remain independent in their own homes by launching a campaign targeting MPs and public sector chief executives.
Due to the dramatic increase in life expectancy there are now more people over the retirement age than children under 16. Whist we celebrate this fact, the current health and social care services has to be improved to meet the demand.
The majority of older people want to stay in their own homes and live independently for as long as possible, it is often not that easy for people to do this.
An accessible, adapted home can significantly help to improve an older or disabled persons quality of life. Adaptations give independence, help prevent falls and reduce admissions to hospital or care homes. An adaptation can be simply the installation of grab rails or a level access bathroom.
AKW have mailed The Cost of Living booklet to many significant parties to highlight the cost benefits home adaptations offer in an ageing society and the importance to the individual of remaining self-sufficient at home. The ageing population have the desire to stay at home and AKW are asking for the support and commitment of influential individuals to make it happen, save public expenditure and help reduce the cost of living.
